The Camp Fire blaze is the most devastating wildfire in California history, and it decimated the town of Paradise. Victims are fighting back and urging other property owners to do the same.

Though PG&E has yet to take responsibility for the wildfire, investigations show that just minutes before the Camp Fire blazed to life, PG&E reported to the California Public Utilities Commission that an outage occurred with its 115kV line in Butte County just off Pulga Road. Investigators are already working to determine if this could be the start of the blaze.

More than a week after Camp Fire ignited, state regulators were alerted to a PG&E outage that occurred on the Big Bend 12kV line in Concow less than 15 minutes after the Camp Fire blaze roared to life. This outage may be linked to the ‘second start’ of the Camp Fire east of the Concow reservoir. It remains unclear why the utility waited a week to report the failure and wildfire victims are questioning if the utility company may be trying to hide something.

State officials have taken issue with PG&E in the past including over wildfires that swept through areas of the state in 2017. In fact, thousands of reports of property damage and the deaths of at least 18 people in 16 separate wildfires have been linked in investigations by Cal Fire to the utility company. Senator Jerry Hill accused PG&E of being more invested in its bottom line than it has ever been invested in safety and said something has to be done to stop the yearly destruction of the state. Fines and penalties aren’t enough to make the company change. PG&E must be held accountable.
